CNBC Ranks Georgia's Workforce Tops in the Nation

State remains one of ten best states for business in annual rankings

ATLANTA – In its annual grading of state business climates released on Friday, cable-network CNBC ranked Georgia's workforce best in the nation. In addition to workforce, Georgia scored highly in the cost of living category and transportation and infrastructure ranking.

According to the network, their workforce ranking was based on: "the education level of (a state's) workforce, as well as the numbers of available workers… We also looked at the relative success of each state's worker training programs in placing their participants in jobs."

"Year after year, Georgia earns national recognition for our hard work to attract and grow business," said Governor Sonny Perdue. "The measures cited by CNBC are what bring companies like NCR and KIA to our state, and why Georgia will thrive as the nation's economy recovers."

CNBC utilized 40 distinct measures of competitiveness in 10 broad categories to rank states. Georgia ranked third nationally in cost of living and had the nation's third best transportation and infrastructure network. The state's education ranking climbed five spots from last year.  In addition, the state remained in the top 20 for cost of doing business, technology and innovation, business friendliness and access to capital.

The CNBC accolades are just one of many accolades that Georgia has earned this year for its business friendly practices. In June the state was one of 11 states to win the Silver Shovel Award from Area Development magazine for its excellence in economic development. In May the Kauffman Index of Entrepreneurial Activity showed that Georgia was first in the nation in entrepreneurship. Also, Georgia ranked eighth in the annual Pollina Corporate Top 10 Pro-Business States for 2009.
