Fix Windows BSOD after Feb. 9th, 2010 Updates. (stops at mup.sys)

After Feb 9th updates, an XP machine may BSOD (blue screen of death) on restart.  If you try to start in Safe Mode, the machine quits at mup.sys.
To repair... Follow these steps:
  1. Boot from your Windows XP CD or DVD and start the recovery console (instructions are here : Microsoft) Once you are in the Repair Screen..
  2. Type this command: CHDIR $NtUninstallKB978262$/spuninst
  3. Type this command: BATCH spuninst.txt
  4. Type this command: systemroot 
  5. Repeat steps 2 - 4 for each of the following updates
    • KB978262
    • KB971468
    • KB978037
    • KB975713
    • KB978251
    • KB978706
    • KB977165
    • KB975560
    • KB977914
  6. When complete, type this command: exit 
  7. Restart the machine.. should start fine. 
  8. If auto updates are enabled... diable them and 'download only'... so you can disable those updates. 
  9. You 'could' do the updates one by one to determine which one caused the BSOD. On my client's machine... it was KB977165 
  10. Remember this : Why this worked!

Video Not Available In Your Country Fix

So you just made friends with somebody cool like Paul Bond  . Even though he works for Brix , which is "only" the  4th largest workwear store in Monaghan , he's still got great taste in 'artsy fartsy' stuff. Unfortunately, he's not that bright   aware, when he sends out links sometimes.  Consequently, he sends out links to really cool stuff that YouTube says  'aren't available in your country'. Well, that's simply not true. It is available, and I have no idea why they even want to make you think it isn't. Connectivity is what all this stuff is about.  Or at least that's what I thought when I signed on almost 30 years ago.
