Investing

RETIREMENT PLANNING FOR 2009 If you had purchased $1,000.00 of Nortel stock one year ago, it would now be worth $49.00.  With Enron, you would have had $16.50 left of the original $1,000.00.  With WorldCom, you would have had less than $5.00 left.  If you had purchased $1,000 of Delta Air Lines stock you would have $36.00 left. But, if you had purchased $1,000.00 worth of beer one year ago, drank all the beer, then turned in the cans for the aluminum recycling REFUND, You would have had $214.00.  Based on the above, the best current investment advice is to drink heavily and recycle. It's called the 401-Keg Plan

Sonny Perdue GOVERNOR     For Immediate Release                                                       Tuesday, July 28, 2009                                                                                          CNBC Ranks Georgia's Workforce Tops in the Nation State remains one of ten best states for business in annual rankings     ATLANTA – In its annual grading of state business climates released on Friday, cable-network CNBC ranked Georgia's workforce best in the nation. In addition to workforce, Georgia scored highly in the cost of living category and transportation and infrastructure ranking. According to the network, their workforce ranking was based on: "the education level of (a state's) workforce, as well as the numbers of available workers… We also looked at the relative success of each state's worker training programs in placing their participants in jobs." "Year after year, Georgia earns national recognition for our hard work

Slight Recoil

Katie Couric, while interviewing a Marine sniper, asked: 'What do you feel.....when you shoot a Terrorist?' The Marine shrugged and replied, 'A slight recoil.

Hardcoding A Thank You Page in Joomla

Hardcoding the new Thank You page link directly in the contact.php file doesn't really leave much room for customising things... so I decided to simply add a couple of parameters to the contacts component menu item. This way, the admin can specify whether there should be a Thank You page and if so, the link to it. This solution will preserve the default functionality and add the Thank You page redirect via configuration. This is what you need to do (hack performed and tested with a 1.0.11 Joomla installation): 1. Edit /administrator/components/com_contact/contact.xml and add the following lines to the end of the <params></params> section, after the session parameter Code: <param name="@spacer" type="spacer" default="" label="" description="" /> <param name="thankYouPage" type="radio" default="0" label="Thank You Page" description="Separate Thank You Page"> <

Organic insecticide

Two homemade solutions that are very effective are insecticidal soaps and garlic spray. You can purchase either of these at your local garden center, or make them at home. Soap is a very popular insecticidal control. I use it myself in combination with ammonia. Simply mix one tablespoon of regular non-concentrated dishwashing soap and one tablespoon of lemon ammonia to one gallon of water. Spray it liberally on your plants. It destroys the digestive tracts of the insects and kills them within a few hours of ingestion. To make garlic/pepper spray, liquefy 2 bulbs of garlic and 2 hot peppers in a blender 1/2 to 2/3 full of water. Strain the solids and add enough water to the garlic/pepper juice to make 1 gallon of concentrate. Use 1/4 cup of concentrate per gallon of spray. To make a pure garlic tea, simply omit the pepper and add another bulb of garlic. Add two tablespoons of blackstrap molasses for more control Read more at AllExpers.com

Google and Outlook Calendar Sync

This was very easy to implement, and with few options that I couldn't live with. Close outlook Go here http://www.google.com/support/calendar/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=98563 Download and install the sync. Give it time to sync...and you're in business.

Organizing Your Posts In Blogger

Image
Are you using Google's Blogger rather than Wordpress? Do you want to be able to organize your posts in Blogger according to subjects? Maybe create links to a section involving those posts? That's easy enough. Just add a label to your post. Add multiple labels if you want your posts to be shown into more than one section. Don't worry about keeping track of the labels. Every time you post... when you type in the first letter of the label... it will be displayed in the labels area. It's really just a matter of labeling your posts!

Google Sites requires Google Account

As far as I can see...it's a fact. If they don't have a Google/Gmail account... you can't allow others access to author articles on your site. I understand it, but that doesn't mean I have to like it. Not everyone needs, wants or can even manage a Gmail/Google Account. I wish they would change that

Surfin With Stan - Main Site

This site was created on July 19th as an experiment involving Google Apps, Blogger, Office Live, and Joomla. Here's what I know so far. 1. When I experimented with Google Apps before (several years ago)... nobody knew what I was talking about ... as far as clients go. They didn't know if they should or could login to share their apps online. I know now that I should have dropped the clients rather than the technology. If you don't want to progress...then stay behind. 2. When I experimented with Microsoft Office Live ... with an account that I PAID $39.95 a month for over 3 years... they eventually lost all my stuff. They did an upgrade...that my domain didn't make it thru...and all my email and files were lost. That's it in a nutshell on the experiences. The things that I want to be able to do with this site are: * Use my real domain rather than the sites.google.com one * Get dependable email services * Share files, calendars and other information with friends, fami
